Leslie Adams, a Signature Status Member of the Portrait Society of America, is an internationally recognized artist specializing in narrative portraiture. Her works have received awards from such institutions as the American Society of Portrait Artists Foundation, the New York Academy of Art, and the Portrait Society of America, where her drawing earned the William F. Draper Grand Prize in its International Portrait Competition. Her work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery (Washington, DC), the Art Renewal Center’s International ARC Salon, and MEAM, the European Museum of Modern Art (Barcelona). She is represented in the permanent collections of the Toledo Museum of Art (Ohio), Ella Sharp Museum of Art (Jackson, MI), the Statehouse and Supreme Court of Ohio (Columbus), New York University (New York City), the Academy of Achievement (Washington, DC), and numerous institutions throughout the world. She is currently preparing for her next solo exhibitions: Leslie Adams, The Measure of a Life at The Butler Institute of American Art (Youngstown, OH), and Handwritten Dreams at the Center for the Visual Arts at the Toledo Museum of Art. The self-portraits in the American Masters 2017 exhibition are from Adams’ Handwritten Dreams project unveiled in 2016, which celebrates the artist’s love of drawing, her infatuation with cursive, and the power of dreams and pure imagination.
