Sherrie McGraw is recognized as one of America's foremost artists and teachers. She studied and taught at the legendary Art Students League of New York, and her work has received many awards from prestigious New York art organizations, including the Salmagundi Club and the National Arts Club. McGraw’s work has been included in exhibitions in major museums throughout the country, including the Butler Institute of American Art (Youngstown, OH), where she had a major retrospective in 2014. The museum’s Board of Trustees awarded her with the Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in American Art.
McGraw lectures for such institutions as the Portrait Society of America, Brigham Young University (Provo, UT), and the Academy of Art University (San Francisco), where she was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2010. A gifted writer, McGraw is the author of the highly acclaimed book The Language of Drawing, which has garnered worldwide praise for its clear and simple approach to the art of drawing. She edited and wrote the foreword to The Drawings of Nicolai Fechin by Russia’s famed author Galina Tuluzakova and co-edited Tuluzakova’s new scholarly treatise on Fechin’s legacy in the art world, Nicolai Fechin: The Art and the Life.
